Since 2016, Solinum has been developing Soliguide, an information medium that lists over 100,000 useful services for people in difficulty. In parallel, similar projects have emerged in recent years, illustrating a growing awareness of the importance of access to information for better guidance for people in difficulty. In light of these findings, Solinum launched this study to clarify the landscape of information tools in France.
This study is aimed at all those involved in the fight against poverty and exclusion.

Objectives and methodology
- Understanding the creation, use and evolution of existing solutions,
- Assess their relevance to the people we support and to social workers,
- Measure their accessibility and adaptability to changing social needs.
"Towards a better orientation" combines both quantitative quantitative and qualitative methods.

- A nationwide survey of guidance materials, enabling us to a database of 222 222 information materials* over the last 10 years,
- Transmitted several questionnaires to 44 professionals and volunteers, 8 media holders and 34 people supportedand
- Conducted semi-structured interviews with 15 support carriers, 10 professionals and volunteers; and set up exchanges with 8 supported persons.

Evolving information tools
Access to information is essential, both for people in precarious situations and for the professionals and volunteers who work with them on a daily basis.

Among the 222 media listed, the themes most frequently covered are food, housing, access to rights and health. This predominance underlines the priority given to basic social needs.

Municipalities and intercommunal bodies play a central role in disseminating information
About 55% of the media surveyed were developed on a municipal scale. As the scale increases, the paper format paper format tends to disappear. At departmental level, digital platforms predominate (20 digital media vs. just 2 paper guides), due to the sheer volume of quantity of information to be disseminated.

Information tools play a central role in professional practices.

To guarantee accurate information and avoid orientation errors, it is essential to regularly regularly. But the time and resources make this a complex task.. The demand for regular updating is strong, with 90% of professionals stressing its importance. In addition, the need for specific information (opening hours, contact details, types of services) is essential if users are to access the services on offer efficiently.

The accessibility of our tools is a major challenge, especially for non-French speakers. only 4 out of 104 media are translated into languages other than French.
Professionals are looking for ways to overcome these challenges, but the updating and accessibility of tools remain crucial elements to be optimized for better public orientation.

*. 222 information media were identified, with an increasing proportion depending on the population. An in-depth survey in Ardèche and Bouches-du-Rhône found 13 and 56 media respectively. If this ratio were applied nationally, we would estimate 2,099 media in France.
